Diomedes

€350.00

This sculpturar vase its inspired from Diomedes, a central figure in Greek mythology, was the son of Tydeus, an Aolian hero, and a key commander in the Trojan War, leading 80 Argive ships. Renowned for his valor, Diomedes's notable achievements include injuring Aphrodite, killing Rhesus and his Thracians, and capturing the Trojan Palladium, a sacred statue ensuring Troy's protection. Post-war, Diomedes faced betrayal at home: his wife's infidelity, a divine retribution from Aphrodite, and contested kingship of Argos. Forced to flee, he established Argyripa (later Arpi) in Italy, reconciling with the Trojans eventually. Diomedes was venerated in Argos and Metapontum, with Roman myths stating that Aphrodite transformed his followers into birds, living on the Isles of Diomedes, friendly only to Greeks.
